Bio

TT Takemoto is a queer Japanese American artist exploring Asian American history and sexuality through performance, sculptural installation, and labor-intensive handmade film manipulated with razor blades and nail polish. Their tactile archival explorations conjure immersive fantasies honoring queer Asian American resilience and joy across generations. Takemoto’s work has been exhibited globally at Documenta 15, Gwangju Biennale, SFMOMA, Asian Art Museum, de Young Museum, and National Portrait Gallery, with a recent solo exhibition at Cantor Arts Center. They have received grants from Art Matters, Canyon Cinema, and San Francisco Arts Commission, and won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Experimental Film at Slamdance. Their films screen at international festivals including Ann Arbor Film Festival, BFI Flare, CROSSROADS, Outfest, and Mix Milano.
